Company Copy

Getting Started #

Are you setting up a new company in Vista or creating a test environment? The Company Copy templates enable you to download setup data from an existing company and import it into a new one.

This process provides full visibility into the copied data, allowing you to review and remove any unwanted records—such as those labeled “Do Not Use”, “N/A”, or “DELETE”—before importing them into the new company.

If you frequently bring new companies into your Vista environment, Transfer All Data (TAD) makes the process faster, more efficient, and more controlled.

Choosing the Right Template #

Use the descriptions and examples below to determine which Company Copy template best fits your scenario.

Company Copy – Setup & Main Records

This template contains all setup tables and master files, including:

  • Vendors / Customers / Firms
  • Equipment
  • Contracts / Jobs / Project Managers
  • Employees / Resources
  • Technicians / Service Sites

Use this template when you want to copy both core setups and key data between companies.

Examples:

  • Test to Live: You’re ready to go live and want to bring over your Vendors, Customers, and other lists from the Test Company.
→ Use this if you’re not starting fresh with new lists.
  • Live to Test: You’re creating a new Test Company and want it to reflect the most current Live Company data.
→ Great for testing new processes with realistic data.

Company Copy – Setup Only

This template includes all setup tables, but excludes master file data like Vendors, Customers, Employees and the others listed above.

Use this when you want to copy core setups but plan to load fresh lists or import them from another system.

Examples:

  • Test to Live: You want to bring over your Test Company setups, but plan to load new Vendors, Customers, etc. separately.
  • Standard Setups: You’ve created a reusable setup framework (like Cost Codes, Departments, GL Accounts) that new companies will share.
→ Use this if master lists are coming from an old ERP or different source.

Company Copy – Setup No Groups

This template includes company-specific setup tables only. It excludes shared group tables such as:

  • Vendor Groups
  • Customer Groups
  • Phase Groups
  • Tax Groups
  • Material Groups
  • Equipment Groups
  • Shop Groups
  • Contact Groups

Use this when the new company will share groups with existing companies in your environment.

Example:

  • You’re creating a new company that will use the same shared group structures (Vendor, Customer, etc.) as other companies.

Exception Templates #

These templates address special cases where certain tables have unique requirements—such as auto-generated IDs or strict insert rules—that can cause issues during the company copy process.

Use these templates only when the conditions apply to your company setup.

Company Copy – Exception #1

Use this template if you have multiple Revenue Breakdown Codes listed on the EM Revenue Rates by Category → Rev Breakdown tab.

Company Copy – Exception #2

Use this template if you have entered any rate overrides in the Service Management module.

Company Copy – Exception #3

Additional Templates #

These templates serve more specific purposes beyond general company setup.

Company Copy – Company Parameters

Copies only the Company Parameter tables, which define settings for each module (e.g., Job Cost, AR, AP, GL, etc.).

Use this template when you want to compare which modules are enabled across companies.

Company Copy – Elimination Company

Copies only the GL-related setup tables required to create an Elimination Company.

Use this template when setting up a company specifically for intercompany eliminations in the General Ledger.
